There’s something about these petite pigs, isn’t there? What they lack in size, they more than make up for in personality, and hairstyles. They’re known for their complex vocalisations; from wheeking to squeaking, and, of course, the iconic rumble. They’re highly social creatures and are much more intelligent than they’re often regarded. Don’t underestimate the little guy!
It’s been a while since we had a class all about charismatic cavies, so we thought we would make it extra special. We are delighted to announce that we will be joined by illustrator and avid GP fan Alice Bowsher, who will be sharing her fantastic sketching skills with us. Please see the best greetings card ever designed as proof of her guinea pig devotion. Our miniature models have all been rescued and will be trotting over from their happy forever home at Spitalfields City Farm to show us their best poses, and farm manager Jenny will teach us all about the species.
All abilities are very welcome to take part, so feel free to join us even if you haven’t drawn in years. We will provide everything you need to get sketching- drawing boards, paper and a range of materials- but you’re welcome to bring along your own kit if you’d like to. We’ll have plenty of ink and brushes available for those keen to test out their guinea pig portraits Alice Bowsher style!
Here at Wild Life Drawing, we are a small team dedicated to animal welfare. We only ever work with the finest animal handlers, who treat their animals with care and respect, and healthy animals who are happy around humans. £10 from each ticket will be donated to Spitalfields City Farm – a charity in its own right – and help to sustain its upkeep and provide happy homes for a whole variety of rescue animals! The farm also functions as an outdoor classroom and a source of joy for local schools and groups with learning difficulties, as well as working to conserve rare breeds of livestock.

We will be joined by the team at Kew Little Pigs who will be bringing along a couple of their finest and friendliest piggies. The class will be led by wildlife illustrator Jennie Webber, who will get you started with her top tips for drawing moving ‘models’. Saturday 3rd May 2025 12pm-1.30pm Battersea Park Children’s Zoo, SW11 4NJ £30/£18 (10% donated)
What better way to begin the month of May than by meeting some marvellous monkeys? (Say that five times fast!)
Join us at the Battersea Park Children’s Zoo to sketch and learn about the clever, curious inhabitants of their primate area.
We will tip our cap to Capuchins Medellin Diablo and Carlos, ex-pets who were living in a London flat before being rehomed by the zoo. Capuchins are highly intelligent and love nothing more than solving the enrichment puzzles that the keepers give them to work on every day. Then we’ll shake our tails with the squirrel monkeys Ursula, Medusa and Kronk- who were rehomed by Battersea after beginning their lives being used as “decorations” at parties. Lastly we’ll meet some of the smallest and most endangered primates in the world- cotton-top tamarins Nellie and Diego. These tiny monkeys are named for the white fluffy fur that they have on their heads, which they puff up when they feel threatened.
The class will be taught by nature loving artist Jennie Webber, who will provide all the creative advice you need to get your monkey sketches jumping off the page. We will provide all the art materials, paper and drawing boards so there’s no need to bring any art kit along unless you’d like to. All abilities are welcome, and all artistic styles are celebrated! Children are welcome to attend but they must be accompanied by a ticket holding adult.
*Please note: The price of the class does not include entry to the zoo, which you’ll need to purchase separately.*
10% of profits will be donated to Cikananga Wildlife Centre, a wonderful Indonesian charity that rescues and rehabilitates animals from the exotic pet trade.

Monday 12th May 2025 6.30pm-8.30pm SEA Life London, SE1 7PB £35 (50% donated)
The coastlines of the British Isles are home to some truly fascinating species, many of which might surprise you. Atlantic Wolfish prefer very cold water and have a natural anti-freeze in their blood to keep it flowing when temperatures drop below zero. Nurse Sharks can reach a whopping 14 feet long but (you’ll be pleased to hear) are known for their docile nature. Small Spotted Catsharks are one of the species you can thank when you find a mermaid’s purse on the beach. These are their egg cases, which they attach to seaweed with those lovely curly tendrils. Join us to draw all these species and many more, at a serene and dreamy after-hours session at the aquarium.
We’ll dive right in with a talk from one of the aquarium’s marine experts, who will point out all the beautiful species that live in our native waters. We’ll learn about the U.K’s best snorkelling spots, as well as about why it’s never been more important to ensure that our fishing practices are sustainable. The class will be led by artist Jennie Webber, who will help you get into the flow of things with a drawing demo and her top tips on sketching moving marine animals. You will then be free to float about the place, sketching whichever species catch your eye.
Our classes are open to all artistic abilities. We are firm believers that drawing is for everyone, and we celebrate all artistic styles! The focus of the session will be to enjoy the creative process while learning about animals and conservation. We will provide everything you need to get sketching- drawing boards, paper and a range of materials- but you’re welcome to bring along your sketchbook and kit if you’d like to.

Wednesday 23rd April 2025 7pm-8.30pm BST Online Class £12 (50% donated)
This April, join us online for a deep dive into the wading world of the Eurasian curlew. These enchanting birds are most known for the long, crescent-shaped beaks from which they get their scientific name, Numenius arquata. The genus name Numenius is from the Greek “neos mene”, meaning new moon, and the species name “arquata” is a Latin word for an archer’s bow. Curlews use these intelligent beaks like tweezers, to precisely pry worms, crustaceans and insects from the mud.
With their enigmatic nature and evocative call, curlews have inspired art and folklore for many years. The list of artworks, songs and poems that feature curlews is as impressive as it is long- they appear in poems by WB Yeats, Ted Hughes, and Robert Burns to mention just a few.
We are delighted to say that for this class we will be joined online by producer, author, and director of Curlew Action, Mary Colwell. Mary is so passionate about curlews that in 2016 she walked 500 miles across Ireland and Britain to discover why their populations are in such rapid decline. Her brilliant book Curlew Moon details her journey and all she learned along the way. Whether you already love curlews or haven’t given them much thought up until now, we are sure that Mary’s infectious enthusiasm for the species will mean you’ll finish the class with a new favourite bird.
The class will be hosted by artist and nature lover Jennie Webber, who will begin with a drawing demonstration, and provide her top tips for capturing the charming features of the curlew on your page. We will work from high-quality reference images provided by Curlew Action, and study a range of poses and positions. While we sketch, Mary will teach us all about curlews, and what we can do to join the efforts to conserve them. She will be happy to answer any questions you have too, so by the end of the session, you’ll be a fully fledged curlew buff!
50% of ticket profits will be donated to Curlew Action.
Wednesday 7th May 2025 7pm-8.30pm BST Online Class £12 (50% donated)
This May, join us to learn about the crow’s cool cousin, the raven. These imposing birds are the largest members of the corvid family, with wingspans reaching as much as a metre wide. Just like all corvids, they’re seriously clever- studies have suggested that ravens have a level of intelligence equivalent to a five-year-old human! They’ve been shown to possess incredible problem-solving abilities and are adept at tool-making. Many people who have worked closely with them are also convinced that they display a keen sense of humour, particularly loving a good prank!
We will be live streaming to our friends over at Gauntlet Birds Of Prey, to meet ravishing ravens Scooby and Leonard. The pair will be given some snacks and puzzles to keep them entertained while we sketch them so we will be able to see those high IQ’s in action.
As a special treat for all you unusual bird lovers, we will also meet three species of caracara- a crested, a yellow-headed and a striated. These striking strutters are unique because, unlike most raptors, they spend more time walking than flying. They are opportunistic scavengers and, just like the ravens, are known for their curiosity and intelligence.
Artist and illustrator Jennie Webber will lead the session, beginning with her top tips on how to draw moving animals. She will provide plenty of creative guidance throughout and will be all ears for any creative queries that you have. Likewise, the Gauntlet team will be happy to answer any questions that you have about the birds. The class is open to all abilities, and there’s no pressure to work in a particular style or medium.
50% of ticket profits will be donated to Gauntlet Conservation Trust.
Saturday 31st May 2025 11am-12.30pm BST Online Class £12 (50% donated)
Nearly 40 years ago, a wonderful woman named Jan Taylor attended a livestock market. After witnessing the treatment of animals there, she decided to make a difference and set up the Farm Animal Sanctuary. This haven for animals now spans 86 acres and is home to over 600 animals. Over the years the small team there have rescued thousands of cows, sheep, pigs, goats, chickens, ducks, and donkeys from neglect and mistreatment.
This Spring, join us online with farm manager Louise and animal welfare assistant Steph, for a live class celebrating the sanctuary and all its residents. We’ll be taken on a virtual tour to meet some of the biggest characters of the bunch; like lambs Bonnie and Bobby, who were abandoned in a field but thankfully found and brought to the sanctuary, where they are growing cheekier every day. We will get a mindfulness lesson from Buster the bull, who is as chill as they come- quite the contrast to the raging bull stereotype! Then we will trot over to the pig area to meet best friends Mabel and Twiglet, who will likely model their best snoozing positions for us. We will meet lots of other animals too- this will mainly be determined by who is feeling curious and fancies giving the camera a sniff!
Artist and illustrator Laura Cuppage will lead the session, beginning with her top tips on how to draw moving animals. She will provide plenty of creative guidance throughout and will be all ears for any creative queries that you have. Likewise, the farm team will be happy to answer any questions about our marvellous moo-dels. The class is open to all abilities, and there’s no pressure to work in a particular style. The basic materials you need to take part are some paper, a pencil, a sharpener and a rubber- but please feel free to use whichever materials you like. We will send you an email before the session which will contain a Zoom link and all the information you need. After the class, we will send all ticket holders a recording so you can catch up/ rewatch as many times as you like.
50% of ticket profits will be donated to The Farm Animal Sanctuary.
Since the very beginning, we have donated a portion of our profits to wildlife charities.
Our passion is supporting smaller organisations that don’t always see the limelight, to showcase their fantastic work and raise awareness of their causes. We’re proud to support the South Essex Wildlife Hospital, Wolf Watch UK and the British Hen Welfare Trust to name but a few! Over the years, with the help of our wonderful community, we have raised over £50,000 for charity.
